消失的电影帝国

如果不是美国女导演Hilla Medalia的特别聚焦,很多人会遗忘这个世界上曾存在一个名为康农公司(Cannon Films)的电影帝国,它曾闪电般地为美国文化贡献出了霹雳舞、超人、忍者和斯泰龙等令人难忘的形象,但由于过度扩张导致资金链断裂,最终破产。

Hilla Medalia在2014年拍摄的《淘金男孩:康农电影公司内幕》(The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films),以《新闻周刊》登载表兄弟的封面文章的题目为题,以gogo boy来形容他们快速的拍摄和廉价的投入,纪录片抢救性地拍摄了康农公司的两位老板---来自以色列的表兄Menahem Golan和Yoram Globus,就在影片杀青的时候,85岁的表兄Menahem Golan在以色列做家庭旅游时突然死亡。

Menahem Golan自10岁起就大作电影梦,他曾对着Hilla Medalia的镜头玩笑道:拍电影就要全身心投入,要杀了你的婶婶,拿她的钱来拍电影。(不知道他干嘛要做这种比喻,亏得他婶婶早过世了)

年轻时,他听说大人正为小他14岁的表弟Yoram Globus成日里为电影着迷感到头疼,他便把表弟找来成为知己,后来两人成立了一家电影公司,在以色列拍了几部叫得响的电影,一直红到了欧洲。

1980年代,他们带着500美金到了美国探路(不是因为穷,而是因为以色列那时不允许带钱出境),最后以50万美元的成交价买下了康农电影公司,开启了康农公司以色列表兄弟时代(Golan Globus era)。

别以为他们一帆风顺,Menahem Golan因手头紧曾卖了三次房,还卖了一次冰箱,为电影消得人憔悴,不过他永不言败,他在生命最后的一年还对Hilla Medalia说,我没有失败过,如果有,我会把它抹去。

他身上有着犹太人的智慧和韧劲,用他妈妈的话来说,就是“如果有人把你从门里扔出来,你就又从窗子爬进去”。就这样,康农公司成为当时全世界最有影响力的独立电影公司,几乎颠覆了整个好莱坞,并一度令康城电影节成为康农电影节。

1989年公司破产,表兄弟分家,Menahem Golan开了家21世纪电影公司,继续拍电影,Yoram Globus则经营电影院。

尽管不自认失败,但Menahem Golan还是承认如果不是他们退隐以色列,今日就轮不上哥伦比亚和米高梅等电影公司尽享辉煌了。
